I was wondering if anyone knew how to mute the console beep. I've got aumix on the system with the volume and pcm down to nothing and it still beeps ( type / and press tab a bit and it will beep or some things I run send \a out to the terminal ) there is a way to do this in windows so it seems natural for me to think that linux should be able to.

I did it by taking support for the PC Speaker out of the kernel. I realized that the beep is somewhat necessary, so I re-enabled it. But that's how I got rid of it initially.

It looks like you're right. Has it been that long since I've run a 2.4 kernel??? O-:

For some reason the beeping stopped when I came to 2.6. Must be some setting in the .config that I didnt put in this time.

It's under "Device Drivers ---> Input Device Support ---> [*] Misc ---> PC Speaker support" in the 2.6 kernels. Why it's there and not under sound I don't know.
