Since I have upgraded to Linux 2.6 I have the following problem. I use a Logitech wireless keyboard with a bunch of multimedia keys. Most of them work, but there is a button to toggle between the F1-12 keys and an additional set of special function keys (e.g., forward, back, play/pause, stop audio) and these do not. In /var/log/kernel/current I get messages like the following when I press the keys:

Code:
Jan  8 21:06:10 [kernel] atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xc4 on isa0060/serio0).
Jan  8 21:06:11 [kernel] atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0xc4 on isa0060/serio0).

The keyboard is USB but is plugged in through a PS/2-to-USB adapter since if I plug it in directly none of the multimedia keys work. This problem did not exist in 2.4. Is this a known issue? And if so, is there a way to fix it?

I plugged the keyboard directly into the USB port and still get the same problem. The problem with all the function keys not working when the keyboard wasn't using the PS/2-USB adapter must have been specific to 2.4.

Yes, multimedia keys are tricky (even impossible?) to get working in 2.6. Go to http://lkml.org/ and search the mailing list archives if you're curious. There's also a thread about keyboard problems in the 2.6 kernel here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=721984

Yes, assuming the kernel recognizes your keys. If you close lineakd, do you get any output from all multimedia keys using showkeys -s or xev?

so no fix for multimedia keys :-\ seems slightly primative to a basic mind.
