|
|
I'm installing linux gentoo for the first time. It's the third day of install. I finally got everything to work, but when I did 'emerge kde' I got an error:
!!! Error: media-sound/alsa-driver-0.9.8 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 63, Exitcode 2
!!! Parallel Make Failed
I have an onboard sound card (SoundMAX digital audio system), is it a compatibility issue?
The error had many lines, if more is needed let me know. The only way I know to get the onscreen info is by writing it down on paper, so didn't get it all.
I have the kernel-2.4.22-gentoo-r3.
Any ideas?

As far as I know that's everything. If you need any other info let me know which file, etc.

You didn't consider actually reading the error message? It tells you explicitly what is wrong and what you should do to correct it...
Enable (either as a module or compiled-in) basic sound support in the kernel - not the drivers, only the basic sound support. Of course you have to recompile the kernel after enabling it in the config...

Could you be more specific. I tried reading the error, but don't understand it.
I need to edit what file/files?
Compile what and how?
I'm sorry, but all I know of Linux is reading the installation instructions and following them.
Could you be more specific? Thanks.
edit:
Actually I found some helpfull resources, thanks a million for letting me know what the error was. I'm going to try fixing the problem now.
Thanks |
