I'm having a weird problem I can't seem to find an answer to, or anyone else that has had a similar experience either.
I want to run two servers from home, each with their own IP address from my Comcast cable connection. That's working fine, and the two servers are online, but they can't see each other, even though they are sitting on the same switch.
Here's my current setup:
Cable modem -->
- Netgear switch
Netgear switch -->
- server #1
- server #2
The thing I just noticed today is that the netmask addresses are different. On server#1 it's 255.255.255.0, and on #2 it's 255.255.254.0. My guess is that's the reason the two can't "see" each other, though they can both individually get online fine, and anyone can ping them both.
I've tried playing with my /etc/conf.d/net settings, but everytime I change the netmask manually for server #2 to 255.255.255.0, I can't get online.
Has anyone run into this situation? Is there a workaround?
Also, it says in the net conf file, "For passing options to dhcpcd use dhcpcd_eth?" What are my options, exactly?
Thanks to anyone who can help _________________ If it ain't broke, tweak it. dvds | blurays | blog | wiki |

I was just browsing my old posts, saw this one. This was actually resolved.
I had to setup an alias for ethernet cards on both machines that shared the same subnetwork.
Basically, on desktop, I'd have eth0:1 be on the same subnet as eth0:1 on the server, and then they can see each other. _________________ If it ain't broke, tweak it. dvds | blurays | blog | wiki |
