Tonight I was on my Gentoo and I noticed that two files that should be marked as +x in a /home directory were suddenly marked -x. Has this happened before to anyone else? Is this the result of a normal cron job or something?

No, I'm behind a firewall, I didn't get rooted.

Sorry, I've never seen that happen. It's not part of any cron job I've seen installed by default.

Want to buy some swampland? :) Sorry, couldn't help myself. Firewalls are like locks on the doors and windows of your home. The odds of a break-in go drastically down but you can still get robbed. But I'll agree that it's highly unlikely you've been rooted.
