Torno ancora a voi, signori...
ho compilato built-in nel kernel il supporto per APM... (sono su un portatile..)
..e ho emergiato il demone apmd..
..ho aggiunto il demone agli script "default" di boot... e...
...mi da uno strano errore: Code: | APM support not compiled in the kernel |
Alché mi vien da domandare alla mia piccola gentoo: "Ma che cazz.. dici?"

Sei sicuro che non dai il parametro "apm=off" all'avvio? |

cosa dice? sicuro di non aver dimenticato di copiare la nuova immagine del kernel in /boot e/o di aver rilanciato lilo (sempre che tu lo stia usando)? |

A me, al contrario, dava questo errore finché non ho passato "apm=on" tra i parametri del kernel (append in lilo.conf).

Controlla il DMESG.
Ricorda cmq che apmd non è necessario al funzionamento di APM. _________________ Enjoy your freedom.

Hmm...
all'avvio no.. non passo apm=off... son sicuro.. e tutto ciò che riguarda compilazione del kernel e spostamento di immagini varie é tutto a posto... son sicuro..
Interessante la questione di apm=on al boot... farò un tentativo..
..nel frattempo... cerri.. in che senso apmd non é necessario ad apm??
..e già che ci sono.. l'applet x gnome di monitoraggio della batteria.. su cosa si basa? ..da me segna sempre 0%... anche se é stracarica...

Della gestione dell'apm si occupa direttamente il kernel. Con apmd puoi associare delle azioni agli eventi generati dal kernel (ad esempio l'esecuzione di un certo script quando le batterie stanno per esaurirsi).

Se il tuo portatile è piuttosto recente è probabile che tu abbia bisogno di ACPI (di conseguenza anche di un kernel recente) e non di APM per il power management. Cerca sul forum: ci sono decine di post a questo proposito. |

Esatto, bisogna specificare esplicitamente di abilitare l'apm al boot nella configurazione del kernel altrimenti bisogna inserirlo come apm=on nei parametri del kernel
Comunque anche io ti consiglio di provare l'ACPI _________________ Please EU, pimp my country!

Ma ACPI supporta lo standby? L'interfaccina di KDE mi dice di no Mi mostra la batteria e mi consente se non erro di associare eventi a suoni e/o applicazioni, ma non mi riesce di addormentarlo e mi succhia tutta la batteria in un paio d'ore!...

Acpi, così dicono, fa casini con la scheda video (Ati Mobility Radeon).. voi ne sapete qualcosa?
Apm.. anche settando apm=on al boot.. non cambia nulla.. questo l'ouput di dmesg: Code: | apm: BIOS not found | ..e non so proprio che fare..

Che tipo di problemi?
Io ho una Radeon Mobility 7500 ed essendo il mio portatile relativamente recente sono "costretto" ad utilizzare acpi.
L'unico inconveniente riscontrato, con kernel recenti, è che quando attivo il DRI per la scheda video, il DPMS smette di funzionare (lo schermo non si spegne più, chiudendo il lid o forzandolo con xset). |

..sinceramente non so che problemi dia.. il fatto che ne dia l'ho solo pescato in giro sulla rete.. magari é una cazzata.. se tu mi dici che, a parte il non spegnersi x inattività, funziona... provo acpi..
Magari il mio problema reale é che avendo un pc nuovo.. sono "costretto" a usare acpi...
