Transfering thunderbird mail

I copied my .thunderbird directory from my RedHat to newly installed Gentoo. And when I started thunderbird in Gentoo, it showed me my accounts, I could even see their old RedHat settings but not mail. Accounts are not expandable so it's impossible to view Inbox and other directories.
Tell me please, what am I doing wrong?

Perhaps it might be tar'ing up your old .thunderbird directory, and replacing the Gentoo directory with (rename the old one out of the way).

Basically just ensure it has exactly the same files!
