I try to run XFCE4 and I have 2 problems:
XFCE start, then crashs and give to me the following :
using vt 7
FBDEV(0) : FBIOPAN_DISPLAY : invalid argument
Then an xfwm message :
X Session Manager not avalaible
error : ##CCC9C5 cannot alloc color
Anybody have an idea ??
Phil

To me as a newbie that seems to be a problem in your config files, perhaps you haven't configured your monitor properly? Dunno what causes a framebuffer device failure though, could be a display driver related problem too.. Does the X-server with twm work properly?
In reply to the topic name I have to ask that do you actually consider your problems to be a good enough reason for others to keep away from XFce4? I use it and I am happy with it.. |

Seeing as he is from France I would rather expect that he actually meant "xfce doesn't run". I suspect it's his knowledge of English that "did it". Though I would suggest changing the topic as could be quite, ehrm, offensive to some...
If you use framebuffer I would suggest having a look at your kernel config and make sure you have selected "vesa" as a framebuffer driver, other drivers are known to quite often cause problems...
If that isn't the problem, I strongly suspect your X configuration isn't really alright...though I couldn't say what is wrong with it... _________________ Fvwm|Fvwm forum |
