2.6.1-love3 "Watch the love!"

I think lovechild et al's original idea for the love-sources was to contain all the latest cutting edge stuff to improve desktop performance. So from that point of view, you have to expect that it may not be the most stable patch-set around, and some peoples milage may vary. Now that alot more people have heard of the power of love, more patch requests are going in and so there is more chance of breakage. That's not to say that I think it's a bad thing, it's just that you have to expect the odd problem now and then, and deal with it. As to mm sources, I think Andrew is also moving up a gear to test the latest and greatest features, as these will most likely move into the main stream kernel now he's maintainer of 2.6. Therefore, I guess, that's why were seeing of late, afew more problems with the mm patch-set (that said, I'm using mm with afew extra's used in love, and I don't have a problem). Anyways, I think there is an idea to move from mm to rml as a base to love, once these are ready.

thigs are great as they are, imo. The best thing is to do as in love2: have a 'broken-out' directory, so people can unapply what they wish... that was a really great idea, I think.

It would be great to see the libata patch in love sources...
Without it, I can't use my SATA drives.

Will you guys ever rethink, AMD 64 support for the love sources? :mrgreen:

(queue the give me dual 248's and yes!)

Seriusly though, I know I could muddle through myself, but there are alot of people here that know what they are doing, and could help.

one suggestion: I read on the grsecurity site that the 2.6 patch is almost ready... I guess that if it's not too hard to integrate, we could put it in; people would then enable it only if the wished to... just a humble suggestion!

How do I set up bootsplash on love-r3? I was following the howto instructions... I know love-r3 supposedly has the bootsplash patch already so I didn´t do that but I have to enable these things in the kernel

The bootsplash option is under "Device Drivers -> Graphics support -> Bootsplash configuraton -> Bootup splash screen"

releases like 2.6.1-rc1-love3 and 2.6.1-love3 is the most stable kernels you can get, though, some ppl seems to have problems with mount of cd and iso files..

Hey, does anybody know how to get a stack backtrace in case of hard lock-up? Oyu know that I get those with APIC compiled in (even without diconnect) with love2 and just want to get those debugging information to send to lkml.

I'm new to this kernel updating business coming from a distro which took most of the choice away. But, is this level of iteration normal. If so we should run a sweepstake to guess where we'll be at the end of the year.

And, does the odd -even odd testing even stable apply to sub iterations such as 2.6.1 v 2.6.2

I think we can skip mm4. I just tried it and though mounting cds works for me again, it likes to ock up even more. Had 3 lock-ups in about 30min of testing. Enough for me...

Really, as discussed in another thread I vote for *not* taking mm as base for love-sources anymore. Late devolpment (at least for me) shows increasing instability (which is no wonder as now all those patches ignored for 2.6.0 are stuffed inside). Perhpas we should make a poll of which sources to take as base. We had "vanilla", "Robert Love", "mjb" AFAIR. Any more?

Before trying to get STR (S3) to work you should try STD (S4). S4 works for me with minimal config, but S3 doesn't.

STD is no problem here also... just that STR is better and faster.. but it doesn't work :\
