I recently installed Gentoo 1.4 from stage3. During the post-install i encountered several problems which i want to describe, may be some one can recognize them

1. While compiling the kernel (2.6.1, but also the "native" gentoo 2.4.22) with genkernel the resulting kernel lacks lot's of modules, like mousedev, which made my usb mouse unfunctional. Later i discovered configs in /etc/kernels, where lots of option where turned off. Can i get some comment on this? As for the rest genkernel works great.

2. The compilation of KDE 3.1.4 could go on only when i set WANTAUTOCONF to 2.58. Although i tried to delete autoconf2.13 with emerge it stayed in some wonderful way on my system. The above variable was found by me in some config file. It is good i saw the error message ("kde can be built only with autoconf >2.57), otherwise i would leave it compile the whole day long without result (as i wouldn't have noticed the error). Did someone encouter this too?

2.1 Emerging autoconf 2.58 automatically donwloaded autoconf 2.13. (i saw it in output of emerge) Why so?

3. Xterm and konsole don't work because they can't open terminal devices. ?????

As for the rest kde and kernel 2.6.1 from kernel.org were compiled and wprk fine on my athlon xp 2400+. I can see the difference between optimized and non-optimezed builds clearly. Especially KDE. i have never seen it so fast before. Good job, except several little problems mentioned above (i did everything according to the install guide on the site).

Thanks
