|
|
I have a Gentoo box with bind 9 on my lan. It acts as the DNS for all other computers and devices on my lan. I have various A records that represent my hosts, router, switch, devices... In Moz Firebird on Linux I can simply type "router" and it will take me to the router. In Moz Firebird on Windows it takes me to www.linuxrouter.org. I double checked and my Windows comp is using my local DNS server as the DNS server.
for example I have netburner setup as an A record Code: | netburner A 192.168.1.110 |
In MozFirebird in Linux typing in netburner takes me to my netburner device. In Windows it take me to www.netburner.com.
Did I set the A record up wrong but it happens to work in Linux or is it that i did it right and Windows isn't handling it properly?

On your Windows machine(s), have you set the default domain (or search domain, dns suffix, or whatever they call it now) to the same name as the zone file for your local domain? That will cause your windows machine to append that to a non-fully qualified domain name (such as just putting in router) instead of going to the search sites because it can't find anything. _________________ are sigs really usefull? |

jsleeper, there was a domain suffix being applied and I removed it. It works now. At one point I had, for my last job, a VPN setup. It was in an advanced setup dialog and I didn't see it before. Thanks for the pointer. That is how I found it.
Sorry this turned out to be a Windows support question.
Thanks to all who responded. _________________ The strong must protect the Sweet. |
