Well it was on this weekend that I thought I would give gentoo a shot and heres what happend.
booted gentoo 1.4
made passwd
Cfdisked 4 partitions
partition 1 was boot
partition 2 was swap
partition 3 was /root
partition 4 LVM
Created a vg in all the right steps
made ext2 on partition 1
made reiserfs on partiton 3,4
mkdir's
mounted
cd to /mnt/gentoo
untared stage one with right settings
untared portage snapshot
copyed portage source
copyed stages
Then when I went to nano the make.conf the shit hit the fan about 6 times
the kernel spits out some garbage about a kernel error and my system freezes and I have to low level format EVEYTHING of course around the sixth time I just had enough took out the cd and gave the kernel something to whine about. It might be something I did may have been something with my hardware but I highly doubt the latter since windows xp installed without a hitch near 4 times on that box. Please help me out. |

My box runs fine oc'ed with any other Os ( temps 36c ). I tryed 6 times with the normal 2500 settings and with the oc'ed 3200 settings. I also ran Prime95 for about a week straight on winxp with overclocked settings and it worked without a hitch. Still the same problems. Kernels livecd |

linux is far more sensitive to overclocking than windows, since it always uses 100% of the cpu when asked to and is far more cpu-intensive when it needs to be _________________ 95% of all computer errors occur between chair and keyboard (TM)

try unoverclocking the system, and if the kernel still borks then its a hardware problem _________________ 95% of all computer errors occur between chair and keyboard (TM)

It's also possible you had an error in downloading the cd image, downloaded the wrong cd image for your cpu, or had an error burning the cd image. (Yes, it could just be Nano that's fscked in your image.)
You can run an md5sum right on the cd device (/dev/cdrom or such) and compare it with the iso md5 sum from the download site and it will tell you if your cd is correct. It'll take a bit of time, though... _________________ Kent
