Has anyone tried running the HD WMV content on microsoft's Windows Media Player site under linux? Visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/content_provider/film/ContentShowcase.aspx (Microsoft High Definition Content Showcase) to download these files. Surprisingly, they actually PLAY under xine! Unfortunately it plays at a rate of a frame every 10 seconds or so . Sound works great though for some reason.
My system specs:
Athlon XP 2000+
768MB DDR333 RAM
GeForce 4 TI4200
Folks... please share if you can play these files with decent performance. Also, is there any NON-microsoft format for HD content out there? |

I can't speek from personal experiance, but a friend of mine had great success using mplayer to play the wmv hd. He had mplayer on linux playback the hd video flawlessly while a windows machine, with more horsepower, dropped frames on the same piece of media. The funny part is both players used the same .dll for decoding.
Speakin from personal experience, I have had very little problems using mplayer to play back wmv files. I also have peculuar sound issues with xine, where you do not.
So I'm sure your miliage will very. But you should give mplayer a shot if you haven't already.
P.S. I find the kmplayer interface handy for most playback with mplayer. |
