I ve just install gentoo on my vaio laptop, with kernel 2.6 and a basic intel network card, and something strange happen. Just after the boot, network is working, but after a few time, it looks like if network is unplugged, ie i can ping myself but not the other, then, sometimes, after a long time it start again normally before to stop again. I don't really know what to do, if someone have an idea... |

Maybe the network card enters to some kind of powersaving mode after some idle time? _________________ Yes, I'm the man. Now it's your turn to decide if I meant "Yes, I'm the male." or "Yes, I am the Unix Manual Page.". |

Did you hardcode your IP address? or are you using dhcp?
I had this problem in the past when I hardcoded my IP address, dhcpcd would still be running in the background and would kill my IP every few minutes. |

in fact my ip is hardcoded, i ve tried to kill dhcpcd to get sure it would not interact with my ip, then, when my connection break, if i start dhcpcd eth0, it looks like my connection start again, but with the same ip as before... I will try to make some test to see if i can have more info. |
