Okay I have a Xerox DocuPrint M750. When I go to echo the hello world to the printer so that it prints out (part of the printing tutorial) the printer doesn't print, it just flashes a green light.

Problem persists even after downloading the sharp.upp driver and installing that, I'm at a loss...

First of all you should check the printing user doc, http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/printing-howto.xml

If you have already done that. Make sure your kernel is setup correctly. Is this a usb or parallel port printer?

I'll need more info.

You need:
<*> Parallel port support (you can go modular if you want)
<*> PC-style hardware
....
[ * ] IEEE 1284 transfer modes
---
As for me I have a hp Laserjet 1100. I installed the printer using the gentoo guide, but it doesn't work. cat blah.txt > /dev/lp0 works, but not printing a cups testpage.

I have no idea why. This is a local printer.
