Do you need to change your use flags after the initial installation? I know this might be a dumb question but I don't know a lot about use flags. |

Hmmm... I would say, if your want your system optimized, then you should set USE flags BEFORE installation (see installation documentation)

USE flags are ways to define any added features you would like in an application.
For example, links (a text mode web browser) also has optional support for X that you can enable at boot time. When USE="X" is set, this optional support will be built. Some USE flags are on by default, even if you don't specifically define them. To turn these off, USE="-X" for example.
How you edit your USE flags is up to your tastes as well as what software you are going to use. A good way to set them is to use ufed.
Code: | emerge ufed && ufed |
Hope that's of some use _________________ Gentoo/AMD64, shell-tools, net-mail, vim, recruiters

When emerging packages if you use the -pv option it will tell you which USE flags each package accepts and wether those USE are currently set.
Code: | emerge -pv package_name |
