|
|
FPS in UT2003 are about 1/5 of what I have in windows with D3D (15-20 in lin and 80-100 in win) with the same display and detail settings.
glxinfo reports that I have Direct Rendering and that I'm using ATI GLX and OpenGL.
I have a Radeon 9500Pro, running kernel 2.6.1-love5 and ati-drivers 3.7.0 (no difference with 3.2.
Is there any solution to this? |

yes, 2 solutions:
1 - reinstall 3.2.8 drivers for better performance
2 - wait for a better release of ati-drivers
i've the same damned problem too --> win 114fps --> gentoo 3.2.8 74fps ^^
there is no solution by now |

You have a slight drop, mrgamer, not the massive cut that the OP has.

Nope... I didn't even know there were any docs for that... I'll try that and see if it helps! |

Btw, mrgamer, have you tried setting your colordepth to 16bits? Often it's at 24bits or 32bits which - for some bizarre reason - doesn't work as well as 16 (or in some cases the other way around iirc?) so you might want to try tinkering with that in your Xfree config file. _________________ Want Free games?

The ATI driver doesn't actually support 16 bit color, so you have to use 24 bit mode in your XF86Config. You can change from 16 to 32 bit while in UT2K3, but whether it actually makes any difference I don't know. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

I've tried the guide now, and no change...
I used the DRM in the kernel instead of xfree-drm, because xfree-drm didn't support 2.6.x kernels yet... |

Try turning vsync off in your UT2003.ini (and XF86Config). I've seen it locking to very low rates when on.
P.S. ut2003.ini is vsync=TRUE to turn it off (don't ask). |

Where in ut2003.ini should I enter that? Can't find anything with vsync in my ut2003.ini... |

In the [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] section.
UseVSync=True

why would you edit an option for the Direct 3D renderer? |

Good question and I have no idea. I`ll have a look when I get home. Looks like I`m not paying attention and their is another VSync setting further down. |

Nope, I`m right. That's the only settings and it makes a difference here. |
