I just started using Ximian Evolution for email a week or so ago, with no problems. All of a sudden today I started getting this error when trying to send email:
Code:

Error while performing operation:
RCPT TO <anyemail@domain.com> failed: Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable

It's not a problem with the SMTP server, because my roommate can send mail fine. Any ideas? I've restarted Evolution, no help. Thanks.

When you go into your account settings (Tools->Settings, click on your account and Edit) what do you have the "Server Type" on the Sending Mail tab set to? You might get this problem if you have it set to sendmail and your local sendmail config is messed up.

no, it's smtp.vt.edu, and set to SMTP. I haven't changed any settings except work on my calendar since I've last sent messages with evolution.

I've now started having problems only sending to other people, but I can send mail to myself. I fixed the problem by emerging sendmail, and setting it to use that. Weird.

I get this problem occassionally. I just retry sending the mail a few times and eventually it goes through just fine. The SMTP settings are correct. I don't have sendmail installed and I don't know why I should, only email I use is SMTP or Web. I had this problem in Ubuntu as well as Gentoo now.
