Hi all.

I am running named in a chroot environment. I have also emerged dhcp and am running a server. I want to change it to run in a chroot jail.

I have noticed that the dns configuration files remain in /etc/bind and /var/bind (maybe elsewhere). Is it safe to remove them, I think so, but would like confirmation.

I finally found out/remembered how to chroot dhcp (took me a few hours), I'll probably have to reconfigure, as I don't think it will carry over my current configuration, will it? And the same question applies, can I remove any non jailed configuration files?

Cheers.

Did I mention how impressed I was with Gentoo, the handbook and portage? Great stuff.

Searching the forums are a bit of a nightmare due to the sheer volumes of postings, but that's a minor quibble. I can certainly live with it.

Please form an orderly queue, no pushing there at the back.

I'll cock things up myself without any help, thanks.

If you chrooted BIND, then the configuration files arent in /etc anymore , but inside /bha/chroot/BIND/etc/
So you can delete those file you wish outside the chroot.

same thing applies, when you chroot the application wont see _anything_ out side the new ROOT to for example /usr/choot/dhcp/etc/dhcp.conf is the file its going to use and not /etc/dhcp.conf

Hey i think a lot of effort went into it, so your thx go to the people working on it.
Indeed sometimes it can be dificult finding what you want in the forums, try to be as specific as you can in your srch.
Another quibble is that there are many people asking questions, and everyone wants an answer here and now... so patience is important.

Enjoy your stay.
hope my answer helped, if not ask again.

Thank you very much and sorry for the impatience. I could make excuses but I won't.

Regards.
