Hi, I'm relatively new to Linux, so I'm looking for some advice on where to proceed from here.
I've been trying to install Gentoo for a while now, using first one of the GRP live cd's that Gentoo was selling, then after I kept getting the same problem, trying to download everything and work from earlier stages.
I keep having the same problem no matter what I try though. When I run genkernel (or genkernel all if I'm not using the GRP), it gets as far as
* Logging to /var/log/genkernel.log... [ ok ]
* Starting 2.4.20-gentoo-r6 build... [ ok ]
* Running "make dep"... [ ok ]
* Running "make bzImage"...
and then the program goes suddenly to the command prompt, with no error messages, or any other indication of what went wrong. Since I don't have any modules, I can't proceed with the installation.
I've tried every permutation possible that I could think of, downloading updated Portage trees, downloading more recent stages, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Is there a way to see exactly where the problem arises?
Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. _________________ ~Lee |

it is likely there is a problem/ error with compiling and since genkernel hides all output by default, you cant see why...
try setting the verbose options on to see what is the last part of the kernel that was attempted to be compiled and then that should be related to why it will not make. _________________ To err is human, but to really foul things up, you need a computer

How does one turn on verbose options? I tried looking in 'genkernel --config' but didn't see anywhere that I can turn on messages. Is it a command prompt option?
Thanks for the suggestion though. _________________ ~Lee |
