Posted: Tue Jan 20, 2004 10:38 pm Post subject: How many forum posters does it take to change a light bulb? |
|
|
I saw this at the AtAT forums
1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"
... another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again _________________ A computer without a Microsoft operating system is like a dog without bricks tied to its head.

that seems to fit these forums quite accurately, especially the longer threads _________________ 95% of all computer errors occur between chair and keyboard (TM)

the last point is my favorite, I hate it when people bring back old threads that if they were horses would be glue by now _________________ There'd better be fudge when I get home... |

I assume that was to me? what I mean is that the threads that people tend to post to after several months of inactivity are usually old and useless...old horses that were no longer useful used to be turned into glue _________________ There'd better be fudge when I get home... |

No it wasn't. I just don't understand what the original post is all about. What are the numbers before each sentence. Those sentences seem so absurd, it's like they come from a horror alternate dimension with no logic or structure. |

All you've got to do is find one forum member who thinks the world revolves around him -- and have him hold on to the bulb. |

And one more to claim, using "facts" pulled out of his ass, that it was really Nicola Tesla that invented it and Edison hogged the credit. |

Well, did he?????
I'm sure he didn't! It was probably someone else who Edison used FUD to step on and to steal his work. Long live the original inventor of the bulb!

Erik | and i am the one who says "correct"
and gives ceertain data about the inventor of the light bulb, also ofcourse correcting stormy, no it was not Nikola Tesla.
the lamp is an improvment, and edison just improved the thing by trial and error.
It was like this
*Sir Humphrey Davy of England invented the first electric carbon arc lamp in 1811
Joseph Swann of England 1870's
and in Paris it was experimented with light bulb sometimes in 1840's trhou the Place de la Concorde way or avenue or something.
Jmes Prescott Joule was the theorician behind it.
(asuming we are talking about the electrical light bulb) _________________ NoManNoProblem

Then we just need two people who call the other guy a leftist for arguing, then an unholy dark shitstorm erupts and the entire thread then gets turned into a discussion about the following:
Religion
International Law
Social Ideals
btw that horse glue link is one of the funniest things I've read all day |

May I suggest that you modprobe humor? I mentioned Tesla to play on the rivalry between him and Edison; I know damned well that Tesla didn't invent the light bulb. |

Actually Tesla did work on a lightbulb as well, about the same time as Edison, but he never thought much of it. The guy wanted to communicate with aliens, make uber-weapons and harvest the power of lightning. Lightbulbs were too low for him.
The main difference between the two was that Edison may have not been the genius, but he surely had nose for marketing. Kinda like Microsoft. |

bash-2.05b# modprobe humor
modprobe: Can't locate module humor
becouse i am moving this week i had to install new light bulbs, but as it turns out, there wasnt any connector to which i could connect the lamp so i had to install the connector of the lamp too, before installing the lamp.
dont forget to bring a connector before you install the lamp. _________________ NoManNoProblem
