I am using the stage 3 package for i686, and the vanilla kernel. Is there some issue I'm unaware of with make menuconfig containing many more options than are supported in the stage 3 prebuilt package? I have been trying to compile for 2 days now, and the frikkin thing keeps stopping on one *.o file missing after another.
I had been trying to appease the make process by going back in and getting rid of option after option, just to get it to compile. But now it's stopped on a file missing in /lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r5/kernel/drivers/scsi -- and when I ls that directory it is empty! I have a scsi drive so that's sorta kinda not going to work, is it?
Do I need to use stage 2 or am I caught in a || universe or ...?
All input appreciated. _________________ ----

You're specifically talking about compiling the kernel, right? Try re-emerging vanilla-sources, and that should download the kernel sources from the net. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Ok this is stupid ... I had left out `modules` before `modules_install` in the make command. _________________ ----
