I compiled it in the kernel (i810,nforce,etc audio support) and it finds a lot on startup, but one "small" error.
When i start kde then, kde tells me, that it switched off artsd because of a fatal error: high cpu load...

Following what dmesg has to tell:
Code:
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.0rc2.
request_module: failed /sbin/modprobe -- snd-card-0. error = -16
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:06.0 to 64
intel8x0: clocking to 47379
ALSA device list:
  #0: NVidia nForce2 at 0xe1002000, irq 5

Somebody knows what to do?[/code]

I had the same problem exactly. In my case, the sound was actually working fine. I just disabled the arts. I had to download the alsa mixer and I think alsa support for xmms....It has been a while, sorry.

In the end everything worked great...plays dvds and mp3s like a peach. My only problem was that the only way I could adjust the volume was with alsa-mixer..there may be another util out there, but I didnt find it.

So, try out alsa-mixer adn set the volumes for everything...btw all my alsa sound channels were muted by default.

Lastly, since I dont trus my memory, try this site out. Follow the instructions and it should work for you...It is the HowTo that I originally followed...it covers about everything.

Good luck! I am sure it will work out for ya.

Thanks, i read two manuals now and installed alsa with all tools and mixers.
But i get only sound in console, if i am starting the artsd, it's high CPU-Load again. Played sound while startup is heavily scrambled and loud...

I merged the WHOLE kde-bundle again. Now it's ok. Perhaps artsd was scrambled...
