|
|
Hi all,
I've read the diskless FAQ and see the options I must configure for DHCP. Unfortunetly the DHCP server I'm currently using is the one on my Linksys router. I'd rather it stay on there as well.
All there any other alternatives? BOOTP perhaps? What do I need to do different?
Basically I have a new shuttle (small) machine and want to boot it up diskless.
TIA,

As you have to setup a server as well, you could easily add dhcp to it. And it offers much more configuration-options than your linksys router (I own one too ..). |

Right. I knew that I was just hoping to keep DHCP where it is. _________________ Tell your ISP to support SPF/SASL AUTH (http://spf.pobox.com) today! |

DHCP and BOOTP both use ports 67/68, so, the only solution for you (that is if you still want to use your linksys router as a dhcp server) is to run another dhcp server on different ports (for ex. 1001/1002) but frankly speaking, after reading some info on it and trying it out - it's tooooo much of a headache. IMHO

Unless you implement a full DHCP server on your network your only other options are some sort of boot media that loads the filesystems remotly (CD, floppy, USB keyring, ...) or setting things up properly on your NICs flashable ROM (I think its flashable ROM...). In which case you may be able to staticly define a few things. _________________ SECOMGroup - Lineman.net
