Hello,
I've been having problems installing any 64 bit version of linux, and having odd dma and irq problems with the sata drivers. I actually successfully completed a gentoo install, but afterwards for some unknown reason the sata driver started to behave strangely (even when using my original install cd). Anyway, what I finally ended up having to do was add acpi=off and pci=biosirq to my kernel paramaters (this also fixed a problem I was having with hotplug loading).
I tried using just acpi=off or pci=biosirq but I required both options for the sata driver to behave properly.
I don't know if anyone else is running into the same issues or not, I just figured I'd post a fix that worked for me : )

If this is the Master2 FAR, then I have one being delivered today.
I'd read that the SATA driver worked for the MSI controller?
Perhaps not, I'll have to give it a try
Thanks for the info anyway .. _________________ Tyan Tiger K8W, 2xOpteron 240,Powerbook5,6 15" 1.5g, Macbook Black 2g, Mac Mini 1g, Ipod P60g.

It could end up working for you right away... in my case it actually worked for about 2 weeks (although with some strange issues) but at the end it would hang when trying to load it. (was really odd, because this was when booting from the cd... the driver couldn't have changed any)
Anyway.. with luck you won't have that problem at all : ) ... if you do (either it hangs, or you notice odd pauses when accessing the disk) .. try the options I have listed.
Oh.. also, when installing gentoo I had to use the nohotplug option.. wasn't an issue after the install though. |
