hi there,
i got a strange problem with a sony vaio notebook.
i can install gentoo and everything runs nice, everything but adsl.
i have an intel etherexpress pro 100 onboard in that system which gets recognized and is useable but as soon i connect directly to a dsl modem and i start generating traffic the connection hangs.
its not dropped, it simply hangs and freezes and there is no way to bring a new dsl link up, it works again when i do a reboot.
i have checked all logfiles and configs but i cant find anything wrong, just because the complete configuration works for me on _several_ systems only the sony vaio sucks
i havent posted any configuration files, cause i dont know which ones could be of special interest.
only real strange thing i discovered is, the irq assignment. every piece of hardware sits on irq 9.
first i thought it might be an acpi problem so i switched acpi off in the kernel but no effect.
this is where i am right now, if you got _any_ hint please let me know.
cheerios

Can't think of much besides changing the kernel driver. I suspect you're using the eepro100 module? Try the Intel driver instead, e100, which works much better on my Vaio. |

Glad I could help. Seems to confirm the reports I heard about the eepro100 driver being written for a completely different NIC, and that it only worked by accident - if it worked at all... |
