howto apply a diff patch?

i have a stupid noob question: i have kde-3.2_rc1 and k3b-0.10.3-r2. in order to be able to burn CDs, i have to apply a patch to k3b. i have this patch as a small diff file. now my stupid question: how do i apply this patch? i did some searching in the forums, but didn't find anything suitable. is there a howto somewhere or a manpage? can i just copy&paste the diff file somewhere in the k3b sources or could i modify the k3b ebuild?

don't forget to apply the right -pX option...
