I've got kdemultimedia installed, but I had to go to the build directory and "make install"... couldn't merge it. Something about conflicts among files already installed and files to install. |

Actually, doing that will update a lot of packages...
This is what it is doing on my system right now...
I hope it will work...
So far, it updated gawk, glibc, glibc-thread.
I bet it's a dependency problem... |
I think that is rather odd. (Maybe you havent emerge -u world lately?) |

Yes, I haven't updated my system for a while. I think this is why.
Well, kde 3.1 beta seems to work fine now. No issue at all. I like the new Konqueror.
Anyway, I think it's time to upgrade my all system... |

Ok I have been trying to get KDE 3.1 beta to compile for a two days now. After I got past figuring out how to get the correct patchs with out any extra spaces (wget patch_url) I had an error about multiply versions of a library causing problems so I did an emerge clean. Now when I try to compile kdemultimedia I get this error
checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.0.3) (library qt-mt) not found. Please check your installation!
For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log.
Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support!
I've seen this error a million times with gtk programs and I know that it usually comes from gtk-config not being found or reporting the wrong version, or gtk just plan old missing, ect.... I am not sure why I am getting it with QT. Everything looks to be there and I even re emerged it just to be safe but I'm still getting the error. Anyone know why. _________________ Java, the 3rd coming of Cobol

What if you try a "emerge rsync" first (don't forget to unmask kde 3.1), and then a "emerge --update kde". This should work. |

I will give it a shot now but it should not matter. I have 3.0.5 on the system. I updated my portage tree yesterday.
Ok it did not work. _________________ Java, the 3rd coming of Cobol

Do I need to have KDE 3.0.3 merged to be able to install KDE 3.1 beta? I seem to be having trouble installing even with all the fixes suggested. _________________ Postcount ++ |

No, you don't need it.
I went straight from KDE 3.0.2 to 3.1beta.
When I did my "emerge --update kde" I saw few lines about Qt 3.5r1 is that different from Qt 3.5? You definitly give it a try.
I also read on KDE Dev list they start to upgrade to Qt 3.6. |
