Hey.
This is a strictly hardware problem, I don't think the fact that this is a sound-card has anything to do with this.
I am the happy owner of a Audigy 2 soundcard, and am quite happy with it. However, recently it stopped working. ALSA returns an 'error: -16'. (2.6.2_rc1-love1, ALSA compiled into kernel, doesn't work with gentoo-dev-sources either).
Anyway, `lspci -xxx` showed its hex dump as all 'ff's. I moved the card to another slot, and it worked. After a while, I rebooted, to find the card not working. This time, the `lspci -xxx` was a bit different:
Code: | 02:0c.0 Class ffff: Creative Labs SB Audigy (rev ff)
00: 02 11 04 00 00 00 90 88 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
10: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
20: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
30: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff |
And jugggling the card between PCI slots didn't help.
The FireWire port, however, seems to be okay:
Code: | 02:0c.2 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Creative Labs SB Audigy FireWire Port (rev 04)
00: 02 11 01 40 06 00 10 80 04 10 00 0c 00 40 80 00
10: 00 08 00 20 00 40 00 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
20: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 11 10 00
30: 00 00 00 00 44 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 02 04 |
I don't own any firewire devices, however, so I can't say if it really is working. What is this 'error: -16', and how can I get my card to work?
EDIT: Now working. Had to install Windows, boot into it, install Windows drivers and have their sanity checks fix the card. (Now working in linux, too) |
