I am going through my first Gentoo install using the Pentium 4 1.4 9-11-2003 cd set.
Following the install guide and everything seems to be working as indicated until I reached the section on configuring the network.

The directions tell me to issue the following command

run rc –update add dominname default

to which I get the following error message

ERROR: runlevel –update does not exist; exiting.....

Hi !

Try it without the blank between rc- and update:

Code:
run rc–update add dominname default

That should work...

make sure that your type rc-update as a single word. There should be no space between the rc and the -update.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses.

Your suggestions worked thanks.

I looked at the directions several times and didn’t even pick up the lack of a space since the brain was thinking argument, not one word.
