I now finaly got steam working, but I can't start counter-strike. Here is what I can see:
http://www.nocage.de/steam.jpeg
When I klick on counter-strike I get this funny updating-window, and steam then freezes.
It seems that as soon as the internet-explorer is needed it freezes. The web-pages are blue. Here is a screenshot:
http://www.nocage.de/dsf.jpg
What can I do?

/edit: There seems to be a problem with ole32.dll
I downloaded it and replaced it into the windows/system folder. I"ll try to install steam/ ie again

/edit: I fixed this. next problem is further down

You're luckier than I am.

It doesn't matter what I do I can't get Steam to finish updating. It always hangs at 26% and gives me that Win32 can't delete Steam.exe error.

I've already tried reinstalling about 32 million times and renaming the SteamNew.exe to Steam.exe at least twice as many times. I've even tried copying the Steam dir on my windows partition (which incidentally works perfectly in windows), but I still get the same error.
All of this with Winecvs.

Anyone have any ideas?

yeah, I fixed that now.
I've got another problem now
Counter-strike doesn't get displayed in fullwindow-mode.
In my wine-config I typed
Code:
"Desktop" = "N"

but it still win't work. I don't get any sound as well.
I've got a screenshot here: www.nocage.de/Bildschirmfoto.png
In the console I get this error:
Code:
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsExW No matching mode found! (NoRes)

When I copied the windows version over (and did all the chmoding like you said in the other post) it launches, but the problem now is that everytime I try to launch CS, or click on "Update News" under the CS properties it will crash on me and give me this error:

"Steam.exe (main exception): Win32 StructuredException at 70C1AF3D : UNKNOWN"

So what I tried doing is renaming the ClientRegistry.blob file, but then I'm stuck at the 26% error again. So I think that maybe your problem Moled is that you don't have that .blob file and its not being written or something.

remkade@null Steam $ md5sum ClientRegistry.blob
6f7475f886bb263712ca223d799d3e20 ClientRegistry.blob

If your ClientRegistry is different and you want to try mine, I can send it to you.

I succeeded in getting to the "Launching CS" window now. I had some screwed up DLLs in my config. But it crashes after that. I'm thinking I have a messed up IE install. Is there a way to uninstall IE so that I don't have to delete everything manually and mess with the registry?

Code:
X Error of failed request:  BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request:  1 (X_CreateWindow)
Serial number of failed request:  60
Current serial number in output stream:  62

Thats my new error now. Happens when Steam tries to launch CS.

Anyone else have this problem?

@ remkade:
I tried to reinstall the internet explorer with the install-ie6 script and I noticed, taht not everything could be installed probalby, so I deleted my fake windows, made a new config with winesetuptk and startet again. The ie-installation still says that not everything could be intalled correctly, but it seems to work now.

@ all: Can some1 help me with my post from yesterday?

i got the "blue window bugg" aswell, but using the bashscript to install IE6 does not work ["Could not find wineboot. If you're on Debian try apt-get install wine-utils"] (tried to debug the script, cus i already got wineboot (but not as i binary, "wine wineboot"), but damn.. "wineboot" aint even inside the bash script.. so no luck there)

Anyway, im running Wine 20031212, IE6 works just fine, can browse websites with no problems.
But inside steam, when the "banners" appears blue, steam hang.

Does anyone know what the reason for this is? (tried downloading ole32.dll and replace it , but no luck)

I'm getting the blue IE problem. IE seems to display web pages fine but in steam all the banners appear as blue and the game locks up.

You need to change your dll overrides. Use the ones in the YAY!! I FINALLY GOT STEAM WORKING thread.

The new version of CS isn't working for me now. Keeps crashing when connecting to a game. Can't figure out why...

There we go. Got it working again.

Added this to my hl.exe overrides:

"*" = "builtin, native"
