I have a conexant softmodem, installed properly with the beta drivers from linuxant. They do work, as i used them in both mandrake then slack before my move to gentoo. I can't do the "emerge hsflinmodem" because i don't have an internet connection. When i use "-k" option it fails. When i try to dail in using kppp i get a no dailtone, even though my phone is being accessed. Is there something I missed, or am not doing right? |

on bootup i get a insmod failure "drivers/net/8139cp.o" io or irq possibly wrong. don't know if that has anything to do with it.
If i uncheck the "wait for dail tone" box, i get a "no carrier" error after it runs through a few more things. I'd really appreciate some suggestions.
Thanks |

Well yup I too had a hsflinmodem, and quite frankly they are a pain ! I eventually gave up rebuilding the system (twice in one day !!! - and many others too) and bought a hardware modem with its own power supply and a serial connection to the PC - I never even had to install a driver ! I have not had a dropped line or a dead ppp for almost 24 hours. My old hsflinmodem gave me untold grief, and evey time I tried to update the system the modem died and I was then not able to config the driver thereafter.
All the best - Grayman |
