Hi.

I am running gentoo (latest) on my dell 500m laptop. However, upon startup, I see a message saying that linux was unable to start the acpi support. Looking at various posts in the forum seems to suggest that I modify the dsdt. However, i do not how to and modified dsdts supporting acpi seem to be available on the internet for most dell models, apart from 500m. Could someone out there help me modify the dsdt?

Thanks a lot.

have you looked here? http://www.tuxmobile.org

Have you tried 2.6 kernel, it has better ACPI implementation. Never heard something about modifying the dsdt, found some information here:

I had to modify my DSDT, too. I put together a HOWTO that might help you get started.
