Hey all ... I've been trying to install Gentoo, but have twice now had a problem with X after emerging xfree. Here's what I've done:
First I've ollowed online install instructions ... used stage3 and GRP
Code: |
# emerge sync
# emerge --update system
# etc-update
# emerge xfree
# emerge gcc
# emerge xfree
# env-update && source /etc/profile
# /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config
# rc-update add xfs default
# /etc/init.d/xfs start
# startx
|
The problem is that X starts up fine, but just hangs. No response to the keyboard or mouse. So I can't get out without powering off. I've installed it on this machine before, so I'm confident that I've got the X config correct. Any suggestions? PLEASE HELP!
Thanks,
matt. |

ginster,
What window manager do you think you are using?
You can start X without one but its pretty boring. About all you can do is ctrl-alt-backspace to quit X.
Post your .xinitrc file (note the leading dot) _________________ Regards,

Well, I got it working. There was a problem with my mouse configuration. I had forgotten that before I had it plugged in with one of those USB-PS/2 converters and now it was just plugged into a USB port. So that was my problem.
Thanks,
