It appears that /usr/bin/spamc cannot detect spam but /usr/bin/spamassassin can.

I can run "/usr/bin/spamassassin < test.msg" where the file test.msg is a known spam message and spamassassin will score it at 36.5 and rewrite the subject line properly.

I can run "/usr/bin/spamc < test.msg" and it never detects the message as being spam. If I look in /var/log/messages I can see where spamc makes a connection to spamd and the message is always reported as being clean. The message even gets the headers inserted too, here is an example of the headers spamc adds.

X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on
server1.maxgfx.net
X-Spam-Level:
X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.0 required=5.0 tests=none autolearn=ham version=2.60

Aside from slowing down my system by running spamassassin in the place of spamc, is there anything else that can be done to get around this problem? Is there a patch available or is it possible to downgrade to a previous version where spamc works correctly?

everytime your rules are changed, you have to restarted spamd
    Code:
    /etc/init.d/spamd restart

    try
    Code:
     cat spammail.txt | spamc -R
