Hi,

I'm no newbie on networking, but I don't have any experience with mail servers...

I want to setup a local SMTP server to do the following tasks:

  • Recieve the incomming mail from fetchmail (and put it in the maildir mailboxes)
  • receive mail from clients on the local network and either
  • relay them to my ISP-s SMTP server
  • deliver them localy

I took a look around and found that there is a great choice on mail servers. Here is my (totaly incomplete list) and my current pros/cons:

  • sendmail: pro: i have the O'Reilly; con: looks WAY to complex
  • postfix: pro: seen a lot of posts about it; cons: none, realy
  • exim: don't know anything
  • qmail: ???

Any ideas what to use? Why?
