|
|
I have a running Gentoo system with X installed. The system has one configured user, say "joe".
I'd like to have the user joe logged in and the X system fired up, whenever I boot the box. I know, one can do this with kdm or gdm and automatic login, but as I haven't (and don't want to have) installed kde or gnome, I am looking for a more lightweight solution.
So my question is: Is there is a canonical way to fire up X (and a window manager like twm) as user "joe" whenever the system is being booted?
Thank you very much in advance,

without gdm, xdm or kdm, that might be VERY difficult.
but there is probably some good way to do this.
do some searching on directfb and quingy on this forum, and you will have a beginning _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

If I could do this with xdm, I'd be fine. I just don't plan to use the heavier display managers like gdm or kdm. |
