|

Hi all,
I need a linux program for creating vector graphics. xfig would be just fine, BUT it only has the snap-to-grid mode. I would need a snap-to-point mode and maybe other snap-modes, if there are any.
Any ideas? |

I do some work with vector graphics and found dia to be somewhat more manageable than xfig...however, the latter is easier to nest within LaTeX (if you are like me and need this tool). Also, I use graphviz but it's capabilities are somewhat different than either xfig or dia. FYI, Suse has an nice article discussing the two programs (dia and xfig).

I have tried most of the suggested programs. Unfortunately none of them had a snap to point mode. I really need this for geometrical constructions, because sometimes points have to be EXACTLY on other points and not only near them or on the nearest gridpoint. But thank you all for the tips.
Isn't there a CAD progam for Linux? |

skencil (media-gfx/skencil)
Has snap-to-objects. (and is almost entirely written in Python!)
If you're using Python 2.3, you will need the unstable version. |

Neither scencil nor qcad compile on my system. But after checking the websites of these programs, I must say, that qcad is the tool for me. I have made another post, regarding the compilation error of qcad.

There are several cad apps for linux:
Vakon - GPL'd full parametric, but isn't true CSG. Very programmer oriented.
Varicad - Commercial CSG Cad. Best bang for your buck. (~$400US).
ProEngineer - Kicks ass, but is VERY expensive. _________________ There are no enduringly clever sigs. |
