|
|
I'm having absolutely no luck in resolving sound issues in 2.6.1. I've looked at all the threads pertaining to the subject, tried every combination of module/built in driver, gone with/without the alsasound script, and I can't get it to work.
My current configuration is the best one yet, although it still hardly works. All of ALSA built into the kernel, emerged alsa-lib and alsa-utils, using the alsasound script in boot runlevel. Alsa loads properly without any errors during boot.
When I try to play a sound using aplay, the output is a just a repeating tone. After a few seconds, aplay terminates with the following error:
Code: | aplay: pcm_write:1084: write error: Input/output error |
Any ideas to make it go? |

EDIT:
BTW, I'm using alsa-lib and alsa-utils 1.0.1 and gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.1. |

It's not that I don't care... It just looks like a problem related to your specific card, and I don't know how to solve it. But here's a bump for you just in case someone who does know can see it:

I wasn't implying that you didn't care, just that it seems that all the input on this subject has gotten knotted up in another thread, and that specific issues aren't being addressed. Regardless, thanks for the bump.
I'm going come back to 2.6 at a later time, and stick with 2.4 until Alsa works. |

Probably for the best, anyway. It seems like there's a lot of work yet to be done on sound in 2.6. _________________ Cogito sumere potum alterum. |

You may have a version missmatch... 2.6.1 includes alsa 0.9.7 and the latest version of the tools is 1.0.2. You can try either installing 0.9.7 of the tools or patching the kernel to 1.0.2 and making sure you have the latest tools to. I suggest the latest and the greatest.
You can find the newest alsa-bk patch here ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/kernel-patches/. Go into your kernel source directory and Code: | bzcat alsa-bk-2004-01-27.patch.gz|patch -p | 1 to apply it. Use Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge alsa-... | to install the latest tools.
Good luck. |
