I'm running gentoo-dev-sources (2.6.1-gentoo-r1). Everything was running great till yesteday.
My system crashed, and I had to do a hard-reset. Now, my /dev/dsp is gone. And my dmesg shows the following:

I've recompiled my kernel and its modules (make clean, make, make modules_install), but it solved nothing. Any ideas? |

I had the same problem with the same sound card when switching to the 2.6 kernel. I'm not sure what I did specifically that corrected the problem but I can tell you everything I did after searching the boards. First, emerge the alsa-lib, alsa-oss, alsa-utils and all of the alsa-driver (s) - not just the one for your card - (yes I know that the 2.6 kernel includes them). If you already have them installed, unmerge and then emerge. Then I used gnome-alsa to unmute and set the volume for both the mixer and cd. I don't remember having the unmute the cd but maybe that's just gnome-alsa. That's a shotgun approach and maybe someone else can be more specific. Good luck. HTH. |
