I use gvim.
No idea what to use for perl, but gvim is fine for each and every language (I'm self-learning c++ now). _________________ Whoever is enough of a fanatic to KILL people should be shot on sight. |

I use vim. Of course I'm not an expert at it yet, but practice makes perfect! |

I like joe for the command line and Scite for X-Windows. Scite is pretty crumby in it's file handling, and you have to reconfigure it by editing the global ini files as root, but it's code editing engine (scintilla) is awesome.
And joe is like mini-Emacs, so you know it's cooler than all that vi garbage. |

It's vim or scite for me, there both excellent for any text related task (scite especially for programming), it just depends on my mood which I choose at a particular time _________________ Bunder for president ^o^ |

Vi, or occasionally Kate (convenient for lots of files open at once, and has easy access to source-code-manipulation functions like indent selected, comment selected, etc). |

I use nano If I had to choose something else I'd probably go for emacs but since nano is included with most distritbutions, I haven't bothered learning emacs yet. |

Emacs all the way. But I use emacs for as much as I can.

Python and Perl? I don't think I know anyone who can stand both of them
I've used Kate a fair amount for C, C++, and Python. Have you noticed that code folding is wonky for Python? I'm assuming it has something to do with Kate's understanding of Python syntax being off a bit, although I'd expect detecting code blocks to be easier in Python than in just about any other language. |
