Have you tried setting your protocol to "IMPS/2" or "ExplorerPS/2"? Like this:

Code:

Section "InputDevice"

Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Buttons" "5"

EndSection

I'm having a similar problem with an offbrand PS/2. It worked the first time I had it configured, but now it doesn't work correctly. I'm going to try and fool around with the configuration right now, I'll post back with any advice.

It works for me as well.
When I swap to kernel 2.4 to 2.6, everything was OK but no mouse wheel scrolling.
Entering KDE, the mouse hangs for 2 seconds then it can move again. It seems the auto protocol does no longer find the right protocol, hangs and finally switch to a very basic protocol.

kernel 2.4 => kernel 2.6
Option "Protocol" "auto" => Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
