how come my swap space is never used?!
i check in xfce4 and in gnome
even in fluxbox
and my swap partition seems never to be used?!
how do i make the swap partition to be used?
also
what software do i need to enable software-suspend on gentoo?

If you have a sufficiently powerful machine, you might never use any swap space.
That's a good thing. |

swap is a fallback to your ram. if you have a decent amount of physical ram in your system, then your system will only have to store information there. if, however, you start doing huge compiles or other tasking things on your computer, your ram may fill up, requiring your computer to start 'swapping' stuff between ram and your hard disk. this is horribly slow, however, which is why adding ram can sometimes significantly boost your computer's performance. |

dual p4 3.06z HT with a gig of ram.

how much do you have allocated to swap? any more than 512 is excessive, but i would think you could delete your swap partition, and resize it into a new swap partition as well as another useable partition using fdisk, and then reformatting and all that good stuff. not positive about it though. give it a go if you feel daring |
