I wouldn't expect many changes from 2.5.2... Just bug fixes. But then again, Nautilus needs a lot of them.
Expect some ebuild from Lin_Matt soon. _________________ old outdated sig |

Have a look at breakmygentoo.net for the latest gnome-ebuilds. |

UPDATE: I corrected the issue by installing gtk-doc. It is a dependency, but broken in the ebuild. |

/usr/local/portage/gnome-base/gnome-panel/gnome-panel-2.5.3.1.ebuild
DEPEND="${RDEPEND}
>=app-text/scrollkeeper-0.3.11
>=dev-util/pkgconfig-0.12.0

Remove the GDM entry in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask

Actually, you really shouldn't touch that file, and rather create a file named /etc/portage/package.unmask and add this line
Code: |
=gnome-base/gdm-2.4.4.6

Got mine running with the breakmygentoo ebuilds, installed fine, but it is a little rough around the edges. |

Actually, 2.5.3 was where feature freeze started, so it likely has some features and still quite a few changes that 2.5.2 didn't have. (Though I can't say what as I didn't run 2.5.2.) |

Some of the newer versions of portage aren't working with the package.unmask file.
What are the errors that you are getting?

I've just downloaded the gnome-2.5.3.tar.gz from breakmygentoo, but i've got problems with the gnome-2.5.3.ebuild.
I unpacked it and ran emerge and all I get is (I've currently got 2.5.2):
Code: | stan gnome # xemerge -p gnome
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] gnome-base/gnome-2.5.3 [2.5.2] |
but, if I run something like
Code: | stan gnome # xemerge -p gnome-panel
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] dev-util/intltool-0.29 [0.28]
[ebuild U ] sys-devel/automake-1.7.8 [1.7.5-r2]
[ebuild U ] gnome-base/gnome-panel-2.5.3.1 [2.5.1] |
which show's the update. So i ran a diff between gnome-2.5.2.ebuild and gnome.2.5.3.ebuild:
Code: | stan gnome # diff -u gnome-2.5.2.ebuild gnome-2.5.3.ebuild
--- gnome-2.5.2.ebuild 2004-01-06 15:56:30.000000000 +0000

I used the breakmygentoo ebuilds and gnome 2.5.3 is beautiful, what can I say.
I have one problem though. I can't get the clock applet to work, when it tries to start (or when I try to re-add it) I get this message:
Code: |
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_ClockApplet".
Details: Failed to resolve, or extend '!prefs_key=/apps/panel/profiles/default/applets/applet_5/prefs;background=none:;orient=up;size=medium;locked_down=false
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration? |
I've got to say that I was glad to see the slick new way they're handling crashed applets, but the clock applet is sort of important. I tried to fiddle with the gconf settings but didn't to mess it up too badly.
I would use the gdesklets clock but we still don't have "always on top" in metacity so gdesklets are basically useless...
Anyone else experiencing the clock applet failure? |

Not that gdesklets are really a solution, but if you go into the display file and replace "below" with "above" in the window-flags (or something) attribute of the main element, it will make the desklet "always above",
I've been having a horribly nasty problem somehow attributed to nautilus through VFS. When I double click a file that opens VFS based applications, they open to a certain point and then freeze. Then, if I kill nautilus, the applications will finish loading and rendering. I think there is a problem where nautilus locks up VFS and prevents applications from continuing to load when they make VFS calls. _________________ Real men use every GAIM protocol. |

Installed it last night. Evolution 1.5.3 is crashy and the seems to be a problem with gnome-session (yeah I know, not much info. yet, I'm still debugging). Just a heads up. It's not really stable yet. |

I am just building it (with the ebuild from bmg) but nautilus still bails out (on my desktop and on my laptop) with:
Code: |

This problem has started with nautilus 2.5.4
someone here who knows how to solve this one?
//edit: after the emerging of some random gnome packages nautilus 2.5.6 built fine (finally :p)

just to let you guys know joem and lin-matt have pulled a huge one reworking the dependencies completely there should be a revised tarball up within a short period of time. That should solve a lot of the problems we are seeing.
Basically work on the NEWDEPS branch sucked up all developer time, but it will be worth it. _________________ Proud to be a 22 year old Infidel, GNOME lover and member of LIK. |

Seems all that was needed is a good old reboot
Everything works perfect now. |

I just installed this last night, it seems very nice. Thee are some bugs and broken features (wallpaper misbehaves, espicially WRT gDesklets). The new fileselector looks unfinished. I wouldn't recommend this version to anyone who wants things to "just work", but it's going to be great when it's done.
Evolution 1.5 is what evolution really wanted to be all along. It's an unbelievable improvement. They finally jettisoned the Outlook-clone UI and made evo fit in with the rest of Gnome. |

Has anyone found a fix for some of the applets not working? It's really getting annoying.

I checked in (or rather I had joem check in) a fix for the clock applet, it breaks when compiled with -O3 _________________ Proud to be a 22 year old Infidel, GNOME lover and member of LIK. |
