FOURCC is the abbreviation for "Four Character Code". It's a specific field (32 bits, i.e. 4 characters wide) in the header of an AVI file that indicates what particular codec was used to encode the video stream(s) contained in that file. There is not "FOURCC" codec. Each codec has its unique FOURCC code - for example, the "DivX ;-)" codec has the FOURCC DIV3, the DivX4 / 5 codecs have the FOURCC DIVX, etc etc.
The FOURCC is video only and has nothing to do with sound.
I assume you asked because you got an error message from some player. Please post the actual error message and we'll tell you what codec you need to use for that file, and how to force it. _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto
