Well I made the move from KDE to XFCE and I have to say that was a good move . The questions i have are what USE variables if any should I change? I have kde and qt in there now, should they be removed or is XFCE based off of qt?
Also, I used to use liquidweather with karamba under kde and it doesn't work right under XFCE. Of course I was running the .32 build of karamba and .33 is out. I really liked that app and would like to do the same under XFCE.
Thanks. |

you could remove kde and qt and include gtk2, as xfce is based on gtk2 |

AFAIK, XFCE depends on the GTK+ toolkit, not on qt or kde. As such, you might set "-kde -qt" in your USE flags. Note that, however, if a package needs (not merely supports) qt and/or kde, it will depend on it anyway, regardless whether the aforementioned USE flags are set.
You could possibly try the gdesklets, which seem to be quite similar to karamba, but I don't know if they require gnome.

XFCE is a GTK2 window manager - i.e. you don't need either kde or qt (except for apps using qt / kde).
check out gdesklets - it's like karamba, but it's made for gnome, and gnome uses gtk2 too _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

Thanks everyone. I seem to have problems getting gdesklets to work, but I will keep at it. The only other question I have is does the xchat-systray work with xfce? It seems to want to put the icon in iconbox as opposed to the systray. I don't have a problem with gaims addin that puts it in the systray. If it doesn't work, no biggie. I was just curious. |

Nevermind. When I changed the setting under the systray app to gnome-like instead of kde-like that fixed it. |
