I have two reiserfs partitions on one drive, one of which isn't used, I'd like to merge the partitions into one bigger partition, what's the simplest way to do this? thanks! |

Parted or qtparted is probably a good choice for this, in terms of ease-of-use. You could also repartition w/ fdisk, and then use resize_reiserfs. |

if I repartition with fdisk wont' I lose all my data on the disk, this disk is my only disk, but I madea Mandrake partition when i was installing and I am now getting rid of it, and if I repartition with fdisk what should I make the unused part of the disk? |

Which partition is "first" on the disk? If you repartition, and the partition w/ your data on it still has the same start location, and the same or greater length, the data on it should still be intact. |

ok, the partition with data is first on the disk so this shouldn't be a problem I guess...thanks, I think I'll try qtparted before I go with fdisk though, hopefully it'll work. thanks again! |

ok, now I've got a problem, is it safe to change this stuff considering that Gentoo is installed on this disk on the first of these partitions? or will I have to boot to a cd and just use fdisk and resize_reiserfs? |

Any idea if the livecd has parted? That would be best. There can be issues w/ editing the partition table, if one of the partitions is mounted. It won't damage data, but sometimes you'll need a reboot to make the new partitions visible. |
