First of all:
<-- linux noob, who is sick of windows
Ok, I downloaded both Gentoo 1.4 images and burned them. Now the installation instructions tell me to boot from the first cd to start the installation. But unfortunately I only got one SCSI cd-rom (Teac 8x writer) using a non-bootable controler (Dawicontrol DC-2964).
How to install Gentoo then?
Thanks in advance. |

Have a look at the alternative installation guide: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/altinstall.xml
The smart boot manager seems to allow you to boot from a floppy and then continue to boot from a cd-rom - which is oyur situation.
Failing that, it can be done from the slackware boot disks - I ended up using a mix of slackware, tomsrtbt and the parted utilities disk (PAUD) to install on a laptop without any cd-rom at all - but that was a bit of work. better if you can make the smart boot option work, I think
Oh, and welcome to the wonderful world of linux! _________________ Don't let THEM immanentize the Eschaton! |
