|
|
Hi,
i´m currently trying to install Gentoo with the install guide. I´m at the "Emerge Sync" Point BUT i just can´t update it.
First:
I´m using a router, do i have to open some ports?
The Router uses DHCP. I can ping www.yahoo.com, i can use "links" to browse websites.
He connects to several Mirrors and tries to download the portage updates.
He starts downloading the files, i think, and then it retries 3 times then writes this message -->
73022 Files to consider
dev-libs/openssl/
dev-libs/openssl/openssl-0,9,7b.ebuild
write failed on dev-libs/openssl/openssl-0,9,7b.ebuild : No Space left on device
rsync error: error in file 10 (code 11) at receiver.c (243)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (1620525 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(165)
Then it says its not complete Recommends trying and something like emerge-websync, i´ve done that, no effect.
I started with stage2. My System is AthlonXP 1700+ with Intel-chipped Networkcard correctly listed as eth0
One of my Harddisks:
HDA1 Boot 100M ext2
HDA2 Swap 1024M
HDA3 Root 13G reiserfs
Please help |

Interesting...it shouldn't be doing that on a 13GB partition. What do mount and df tell you? |

I´m a bloody noob but i followed the installation instructions exactly. It seems just the tmpfs is used ??
Oh yes i used alt+F3 for root console, in alt+f1 it says it cannot read the table of mounted filesystem, whats that supposed to mean |

Ok, i've mounted the devices AGAIN, i think i restarted once..
But no change. They're listed in mount and df now with 1% use but still emerge sync says i have no diskspace at around 70xxx files.
But now its app-admin/ and app-admin/timestamp.x O_o
-> Can you tell me why the alt-F1 Console cannot find several commands and the alt-F2 F3 F4 console does. I think its something with root user but i didn't use a Linux System for years now Please help, sorry for the noobiest Question ever |

From those outputs, it almost looks as though you haven't chrooted properly, as your root partition seems to be on tmpfs. The only suggestion I can give is to make sure you're chrooted properly, and try it again. |

You missed the step to mount your freshly formatted root partition to /mnt/gentoo. Just start over from there, and everything will be fine.

I'm having almost the identical problem except I get the out of disk space message around the kde-bounce without fail each time.
I have properly chroot'd with /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash and I just don't get it. I'm following the quick install guide verbatim and I can't figure this one out. |

And the solution is almost identical too
You just need to mount your future root partition (possibly /dev/hda3) on /mnt/gentoo.
Once you do that, "df" will show that you have plenty of space available on /mnt/gentoo.
Oh, and welcome to the Gentoo Forums. |

Ok, I'll give that a shot. For reference I'm using a second hard drive with 1 ext3 partition and one swap partition, so I'll be trying hdb1. Thanks for the warm welcome. |
