Mplayer problems -- XVideo extension missing

I`m having trouble getting any of mplayer`s ouput codecs to work. SDL and gl2 sort of work, but both have problems. In short, I`d like to use xv, as I was happy with the performance on my old system. Unfortunately, xv doesn`t work on my new system. The xvideo extension does not appear to be installed:

I can`t find any information on how to install or load the XVideo extension. I tried adding load "xv" and load "xvideo" to the modules section of XF86Config, but neither worked. The xv USE flag is definately set in /etc/make.conf. My graphics card is an NVidia GeForce 4, and I`m using the drivers downloaded from NVidia`s webpage. Can anyone tell me how to get xv working?

Thanks for your help. So I guess not having "3dnow" in my USE flags is part of my problem, but "mmx" there. I suppose I should recompile everything -- joy! I did that when I forgot canna and cdr and wanted to use Japanese too. Is there a way to tell emerge to just recompile XFree86 and video related ebuilds, or do I have to recompile it all? Am I missing any other important video related flags?

There is nothing obvious in your X log file. You use flags say to build Xv, yet the log shows its not found - it does attempt to load it.

Thanks for your help. Changing my USE flags solved some problems. However, it turns out I was missing the following in my XF68Config.

Load "extmod"

I didn`t notice the problem because I wasn`t aware XVideo was part of the extmod module. I finally noticed the problem after looking at some example XF86Config files others had posted to the internet. Suddenly dga works too!
